The New Normal in Asia series explores the new realities and complexities unfolding in Asia to shed light on the shape of a post-pandemic world.

The world has been shaken by the pandemic as only global war, revolutions, or natural disasters can achieve. To help readers understand the parameters of the “new normal” environment, we invited leading experts from the NBR network to contribute to the New Normal in Asia essay series. In the April 2020 inaugural essay, Nicholas Eberstadt (AEI) set the stage for the series with a sweeping look at the tectonic economic shifts underway, the likely enduring centrality of Asia in a post-pandemic world, the impending global reckoning with China, and the imperative for U.S. leadership. This and subsequent essays have provided a glimpse of a very different future from the one any of us might have imagined at the start of 2020.

Emerging Voices on the New Normal in Asia

With support from the Henry Luce Foundation, NBR began expanding and diversifying the acclaimed New Normal in Asia series to include the emerging voices of younger scholars and analysts in both the United States and the Indo-Pacific in late 2020.
