WASHINGTON, D.C. | Today, the National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) announced that Joseph E. Tofalo will join the NBR Board of Directors. Tofalo is Vice President, Engagement and Customer Affairs, for Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII). Joining HII in January 2019, he helps inform national security policy and future naval force capabilities through engagement with think tanks, professional organizations, federal entities, academia, and other third-party advocates.

“We are delighted to welcome Admiral Tofalo and are so glad to be continuing the important board relationship NBR has had with Huntington Ingalls,” said John Rindlaub, chairman of NBR’s Board of Directors.

Tofalo graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1983 and served 35 years in the Navy, retiring as a Vice Admiral. His culminating submarine Flag Officer assignments were as Director, Undersea Warfare, responsible for submarine force warfighting requirements and the budgets to achieve them, and as Commander, Submarine Forces, responsible for the submarine force’s vision, policies, and operations.

“With his distinguished naval experience, we look forward to leveraging Admiral Tofalo’s expertise on the NBR board as we continue to build our maritime work at this critical time in U.S.-Asia relations,” said NBR president Roy Kamphausen.
