NBR Welcomes Ambassador Ahn to Board of Directors

Ambassador Ahn is a retired diplomat of the Republic of Korea three-time ambassador, to the United States, the EU, and Belgium, as well as vice minister of foreign affairs and trade from February 2012 to May 2013. His final post was as ambassador to the United States from 2012 to 2017.

WASHINGTON, D.C. | Today, the National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) announced that Ambassador Ahn Ho-young will join the NBR Board of Directors. Ambassador Ahn is a retired diplomat of the Republic of Korea (three-time ambassador—to the United States, EU, and Belgium) as well as vice minister of foreign affairs and trade from February 2012 to May 2013. His final post was as ambassador to the United States from 2012 to 2017.

“We are delighted to welcome Ambassador Ahn, our first director from the Republic of Korea, in this 70th anniversary year of the founding of the U.S.-ROK Alliance. His leadership experience and deep expertise on the Asia-Pacific will prove invaluable to successfully executing NBR’s mission,” said John Rindlaub, chair of NBR’s Board of Directors.

From December 1998 until 2001, Ambassador Ahn served as Counsellor to the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations Secretariat and International Organizations in Geneva, Switzerland. Subsequently, he served as Deputy Director-General of the International Trade Law Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2003, he served as Director-General of the Multilateral Trade Bureau and in 2004 he became Director-General of the Economic Cooperation Bureau at the Ministry of Finance and Economy.
