Stephen P. Cohen is a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, which he joined in 1998 after a career as a professor of Political Science and History at the University of Illinois. He has also taught in India, Japan, and Singapore, and served on the Policy Planning Staff of the State Department. In 2004 the World Affairs Councils of America named him as one of America’s five hundred most influential people in the area of foreign policy. Dr. Cohen is the author, co-author, or editor of over fourteen books, the most recent being Four Crises and a Peace Process: American Engagement in South Asia (2007), The Idea of Pakistan (2004), and an edited volume published by the National Academy of Science that explores the application of technology to the prediction, prevention, or amelioration of terrorist acts. He has just completed a book on Indian military modernization entitled Arming Without Aiming. Dr. Cohen’s current project will attempt to characterize Pakistan’s future(s) as of 2015.
