Nicole Smolinske

Nicole Smolinske is a Bridge Award Fellow at NBR, where she focuses on political and security issues throughout Southeast Asia.

Ms. Smolinske holds an MA in Southeast Asian Studies from the University of Michigan and holds a BA in Political Science, in Asian Studies, and in Philosophy from Washington State University and is a graduate of the Honors College.

Ms. Smolinske was a Boren Fellow in Chiang Mai, Thailand. While in Thailand, she studied the Thai language and conducted field research on the strategies used by ethnic Shan migrants from Myanmar to cope with unfamiliar working and bureaucratic environments. To aid in her research and overall understanding of gender and migration issues, Ms. Smolinske was a research intern with the MAP (Migrant Assistance Program) Foundation in Chiang Mai. Prior to joining NBR, Ms. Smolinske worked in the Southeast Asia Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
