Melissa Colonno is Assistant Director for the National Asia Research Program and the Strategic Asia program.

In this capacity, Ms. Colonno supports the Vice President, Research and Operations on the National Asia Research Program (NARP). She plays a critical role in the substantive and business development of NARP, serving as primary point of contact with Associates and Fellows, and supporting the program’s Advisory Council, Presidents’ Council, and Selection Committee. Ms. Colonno also supports the Strategic Asia program.

Ms. Colonno joined NBR in 2008 as an intern while working toward an MA in China Studies at the University of Washington’s Jackson School of International Studies. Upon completing her MA in January 2010, she began working at NBR full-time. Ms. Colonno holds a BA in East Asian Studies from Middlebury College, with a focus on Chinese history. Following her undergraduate studies, she taught Mandarin Chinese at Suffield Academy, an independent high school in Connecticut. She continues to be interested in language and education policy. Ms. Colonno has spent time studying in both Beijing and Harbin and has traveled widely throughout China.
