Alan Burns is a Bridge Award Fellow at NBR.

As a Fellow, Mr. Burns provides research and writing support for NBR projects and publications, and also participates in outreach efforts in Washington, D.C.</p/>

Mr. Burns studied at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University, where he earned an MA in International Relations. He completed concentrations in Strategic Studies and International Economics and conducted research on civil-military relations in China. He earned a BA in International Studies, also at Johns Hopkins University, and studied at the Free University in Berlin during his junior year.

Prior to joining NBR, he completed a Boren Fellowship in China, where he studied Mandarin Chinese at the Inter-University Program at Tsinghua University in Beijing. He has traveled extensively in China and East Asia, including research trips to Taiwan and Japan. Mr. Burns is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and German.
