The Future U.S-China Relationship: Partnership or Adversarial?

On May 5, 2015, the Slade Gorton Policy Center held a roundtable discussion with former Ambassador Gary Locke on the future of the Sino-American relationship. Will it be adversarial or one of partnership?

Ambassador Locke served in President Barack Obama’s administration from 2009 to 2014 first as U.S. Secretary of Commerce (2009-11) and then as Ambassador to China (2011-14) before returning to Seattle. Prior to that service, Locke held multiple leadership positions in Washington state including as a two-term Governor from 1997-2005, and serving as King County Executive and as a member of the Washington House of Representatives from the 37th District. He attended Yale University and received his law degree from Boston University. Mr. Locke is the first Chinese American to serve as Ambassador to China, as U.S Secretary of Commerce, and as Governor.

This program was planned and developed by the students of the Gorton Center Global Leaders Program, a year-long leadership development program.
