"Gas, Asia, and the Energy Transition" with Leslie Palti-Guzman

On October 23, 2023, NBR held its twenty-fifth President’s Circle dialogue with special guest Leslie Palti-Guzman, Head of Research and Market Intelligence at SynMax and former CEO of GasVista.

NBR President Roy Kamphausen began the event by highlighting key developments in Asia from the prior month. He analyzed the escalatory behavior by the Chinese Navy and Coast Guard directed at the Philippines in the South China Sea. He also discussed the regional impacts of President Biden’s historic state visit to Vietnam and the associated upgrading in bilateral relations, as well as the summit meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and DPRK leader Kim Jong-Un. He provided an overview of how key Indo-Pacific states were responding to the conflict between Israel and Hamas and concluded his remarks by commemorating the 70th anniversary of the formalization of the U.S.-ROK alliance with the signing of the bilateral mutual defense treaty and providing thoughts on how the alliance will evolve in the future.

In the second half of the event, Ms. Palti-Guzman discussed her work analyzing and creating predictive models to understand global energy markets, particularly those relating to LNG. She outlined key energy security issues facing the world, including the Indo-Pacific, and the relationship between LNG and these broader trends.
