NBR and Wilson Center Partner to Honor Scalapino
NBR and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars are partnering to launch a major national research and conference program. The program will select a premier group of National Asia Research Associates and Fellows, nominated by U.S. research organizations and higher learning institutions with top programs on Asia.
NBR and the Wilson Center plan to host the Research Associates and Fellows at a major conference on contemporary Asian Studies in June 2010 in Washington, D.C. The purpose is to highlight those whose commitment and expertise have made exceptional contributions to America’s understanding of the vast changes underway in the region. At this and all subsequent conferences, NBR and the Wilson Center aim to award one outstanding scholar with a significant prize named after renowned Asia scholar Robert Scalapino, arguably America’s foremost scholar of Asia over the past 60 years.
Dr. Scalapino has published 500 articles and 38 books or monographs, and has helped shape key institutions around the world that work on Asia. A consortium of foundations, including The Asia Foundation, will sponsor the program.
