Conference and Gala

Pursuing Security in a Dynamic Northeast Asia Conference :

The purposes of the conference were to:

  • Recognize the contributions Dr. Pyle has made in advising and shaping NBR's research, especially on Northeast Asia;
  • Provide a substantive component to the gala events honoring the dedication of the Kenneth B. and Anne H.H. Pyle Center for Northeast Asian Studies; and
  • Through discussion among senior policymakers and leading Asia scholars, identify and analyze the long-term issues that affect the future security architecture and ultimately the stability of Northeast Asia.

Gala Dinner:

Former Washington State First Lady Mona Locke served as the MC at a black tie dinner featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist George F. Will, classical violinist Kyoko Takezawa, pianist Walt Wagner and other notables. The dinner included a reception and a display of original prints by Japanese woodblock artist Sadao Watanabe.
