The Center for Asian Security Studies
The Center for Asian Security Studies (CASS) conducts innovative policy research on threats to international security and U.S. national interests arising from the Asia-Pacific region, through five initiatives and programs:
Strategic Asia
The Strategic Asia Program tracks the capabilities of states and the changing balance of power in the region, examines the perceptions and strategies of Asia’s major powers, and assesses how these combine to create new strategic challenges and opportunities for the United States.
Energy Security
The Energy Security Program analyzes the geopolitical, economic, market, and environmental implications of Asia’s rapidly growing energy challenges.
Nuclear Asia
The Nuclear Asia Program addresses emerging nuclear developments and proliferation concerns in Asia and assesses their implications for regional security and U.S. policy.
Military Modernization
The Military Modernization initiative provides independent, authoritative and future-oriented analysis of Asian states’ conventional military modernization programs within the strategic context of regional security environments.
Non-Traditional Security
The Non-Traditional Security initiative assesses a wide range of non-traditional security threats in Asia and examines regional security challenges that require non-traditional responses.
CASS also houses the John M. Shalikashvili Chair in National Security Studies, whose holder contributes to the research and the development of the Center.
