Andrew Marble
Andrew Marble is Editor at NBR.

As NBR’s Editor, Dr. Marble is responsible for all editorial and managerial aspects of publications at NBR.

Dr. Marble received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from Brown University (1997 and 2002, respectively); M.A. in Law and Diplomacy from Tufts University’s Fletcher School (1994); and a B.A. in East Asian Studies from Middlebury College (1990).

Before coming to NBR in January 2005, he was the Editor of Issues & Studies: A Social Science Quarterly on China, Taiwan, and East Asian Affairs. Special issues of I&S that he has edited include: “Studies of Taiwan Politics” (Sept./Dec. 2004); “The State of the China Studies Field” (Dec. 2002/March 2003); “The Taiwan Threat?” (March 2002); “The ‘China Threat’ Debate” (March 2000); and “The Clash of Civilizations” (October 1998).

He has spent eight years in Asia, having studied, worked, researched, and traveled in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. Andrew Marble also spent two years working for the Information Division of Taiwan’s representative office in Boston, Massachusetts (1990-1992). He is fluent in spoken and written (Mandarin) Chinese.

His research interests have included Chinese politics and foreign affairs (including the role of the PLA), Taiwan politics, and the interplay of ideas, interests, and institutions in politics and policymaking. Since coming to NBR, he has helped launch NBR’s peer-reviewed academic journal, Asia Policy, which promotes the bridging of the gap between academic research and policymaking.
